[Bookplate for Sir Robert Peel] In black ink. Armorial bookplate. Argent (silver) three sheaves of as many arrows proper, banded gules (red). On a chief azure (blue) a bee volant, or (gold). Crest of a demi-lion rampant argent, gorged with a collar azure, charged with three bezants, holding between the paw a shuttle, or. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 22. [Bookplate for G. P. Girdwood] Oval-shaped circular border with legend containing a motto printed in capital block letters across the top half. Bottom half of the border has shading, decorate circles, and a decorative end. Border made to look like a ribbon, one end of which loops over the bottom of the oval. End of the ribbon has thin borders, circular decorations, and almost tapers to a point with decorative curls at the end. In the center of the oval is a demi-lion rampant guardant. In its right paw, the lion holds a tree with round foliage at the top and sprawling roots at its base. Below the image is text written in stylized sentence-case serif font. 23. [Bookplate for Nicholas Garry] Printed in black ink on off-white paper. In the centre is a family shield, decorated with with a chevron pattern in solid black and white ground with a spotted pattern. A ‘V’ shape in the centre of the shield intercepts and counterchanges the chevron colours. Above this is an extended arm in armor holding a circular disc that repeats the pattern on the shield. 24. [Bookplate for Theodore A. Jackson by Franklin Bittner] The bookplate is printed in shiny, raised black ink. The image is a three-masted ship at sea above a compass rose. In the top left of the image is the illustrator’s copyright text, and below the image is text identifying the owner. 25. [Bookplate for Baron de Hirsch Institute and Hebrew Benevolent Society] This bookplate is in two parts: One to show ownership by the library, the other to show who made the presentation of the book to the library. 1) In black ink on white or cream paper. The bookplate consists of lines for recording location information, the seal of the institute [two concentric rings with the name and dates of the institute surrounding the inner circle, which contains a Star of David surrounding some Hebrew text], and other lines for noting the number and receipt date of the book surrounding the library name. 2) In black ink on white or cream paper, the bookplate consists of a thin border surrounding black text. 26. [Bookplate for Alfred B. Wiener by Antioch Bookplate Company] This bookplate is printed in black ink in an art deco style with Broadway font (c. 1928) for the owner's name. It shows a man in formal wear reading a book. 27. [Bookplate for Edward Steane] This bookplate, in black ink, consists of a straight crest wreath, on top of which is a rock and eagle, wings addorsed and elevated. Below the crest is a banner containing the Latin motto. The image is bordered by a single line frame. 28. [Bookplate for Garnet Joseph Wolseley by Charles William Sherborn] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, argent (silver), charged with a talbot passant, gules (red), and a mullet above at centre chief. The escutcheon is supported by a wolf, rampant clutching swords at dexter and sinister. The escutcheon is set within a garter-like setting, from which various military medals hang. Above the escutcheon is a viscount coronet, sans the cap, with a grated helmet at three-quarters, further delineating the rank of viscount. Upon the helmet rests a ducal coronet, which is charged with a wolf's head. Behind the wolf is a small banner with first Latin motto within (the family motto of Wolseley of Wolseley, Co. Stafford, Barts.), and below the supporters and escutcheon is a second banner, with second Latin motto within (the family motto of Wolseley of Mount Wolseley, Co. Carlow, Barts.), along with a larger banner with bookplate owner's name and title. Elaborate mantling radiates from the helmet, and the entire bookplate is encased in a ribbed border. 29. [Bookplate for Edward Steane] This simple textual bookplate contains the originator's name in black ink, and also includes the location.
